Carlo drove on the backseat of the cab, smoking a cigarette again and watching people on the streets. Soon he’ll be smoking cigars, as he owned his premise now. He was headed downtown to meet his long time friend, Julio Garatta. They met ten years ago, back in Sicily. These were the times, he and Julio rolling the streets of Palermo, doing heists together. They were more than just friends. They’d give life for each other. Julio left Italy two years ago to start over in New York. He said he grew tired of Palermo. He invited Carlo in. Now, with his close ones dead, Scivoli took the offer gladly. He was very surprised of having to get back to old ground so fast. But he wouldn’t question his Don. Besides, it was a token of trust from Barzini sending him to Palermo.

The cab parked front the fancy apartment building. Carlo was amazed at the sings of Julio making good. The construction was one of the more modern and certainly expensive ones. He paid the driver and stepped out of the vehicle. Several steps brought him into a vast lobby where a receptionist in grey fedora sat behind the bulky counter.

“May I help you, sir?” asked the clerk.
“I’m a friend of Mr. Garatta” Carlo replied, leaning against the counter.
“Just a moment” the clerk picked up phone and dialed Julio’s apartment. “Good evening sir, this is Joey from the desk. I’ve got some gentleman here by the name of…” he paused and turned back to Scipio. “Excuse me, what is your name, sir?”
“Scivoli” Carlo said waiting patiently. The guy was doing his job well. He was glad to hear Julio lived in a place with tight rules about security.
“Mr. Scivoli” the clerk continued on the phone. “Of course. Good day, sir” he hang up. “Mr. Garatta will see you. Last floor, number 41.”
“Thank you, Joey” Scipio moved into the lift and pressed the button.

The door closed slowly and the lift started going up with a hum of the winch. He watched the red electronic numbers switch on the display. Half a minute later he was up on the seventh floor and making his way to the door. The corridor was nice. Plants and a carpet. He should get himself a living in such a place. After he gets back from Sicily, that is. Rubbing hes shoes on the welcome mat he pressed the buzzer. The door quickly got opened and a pretty lady ushered him in. She was barely clothed in skimpy blue costume.

“Hi, I’m Cindy” she introduced with a killer smile, bringing out her most seductive tone. “Julio’s girlfriend.”

Carlo thought she’s a sadist doing all this dance over him and then letting him know who she is. A malicious girl. He liked girls with a temper. But it was time to cut the presentation.

“Where is he?”
“He’s in the living room. May I take your jacket?”

She stood real close. He could smell the scent of her body. He found her very attractive. He’d screw her if she wasn’t Julio’s girl. But friendship before women. Always.

“I never take it off” he said.
“Really? Even when you get laid?” she said playfully but he didn’t reply so she just shuddered her shoulders. “Suit yourself. Julio’s over there.”

He went through another door pointed by her. The room was lit with only one standing lamp. Julio was taking place on the sofa. Another man was occupying an armchair. His suit looked liked it was to tear over his frame. A really big guy. Carlo didn’t know him. Like most associates in the city. Drinks and ashtray laid on the glass table in front of the two.

“Scipio, my man” Julio got up and embraced his guest heartily. “Glad you’ve made it. This is Salvatore Sasso from Vegas.”

The muscular type lifted himself from the chair and exchanged a firm handshake. He had big and rough hands with perfectly clean nails. Carlo always watched the hands. They told much about the people.

“Nice to meet you Mr. Sasso” he produced a casual greeting.
“All the same, Mr. Scivoli” Sasso said in response and got back down.
“Have a seat” Julio showed him to another armchair. “Want a drink? Cindy, scotch for Mr. Scivoli.”

Carlo sat down, smiling. Of course Julio remembered what he liked. Cindy came in, put the glass down on the table, poured his drink and left the bottle before leaving. The chick knew her place.

“Mr. Sasso is new in town” Julio explained. “He’s looking for some occupation.”
“Interesting” Carlo reached for his glass. “So, what you’re good at Mr. Sasso?”
“Generally I take out trash” Salvatore said, lighting a thick cigar. “I dealt many bags back in Vegas.”
“What sort of bags?” Carlo asked. This was getting interesting.
“Different sorts. Home trash, office trash. Sometimes it was so much I had to take it out with a truck” Sasso blew out a smoke and crossed his legs.
“Cut the crap, Sally” Julio chuckled. “It’s good company, you may talk open.”
“No need” Carlo raised a hand. “I understand well enough. What was the company?”
“Semprone” just one word was enough to tell everything. Even being so short in the country, Scivoli recognised the name and nodded his head.
“Why did you leave?”

Sasso eyed this newly met guy. Smooth boy. He asked many questions but it was all to point. He knew Scivoli was judging him and his answer would decide what he thinks. Salvatore dropped some ash into the tray and began his story.

“There was this dog, Martin Bassett. He tried to pin Semprone down for years, you know. People were saying the Don cut one of his testicles back in the days he still roamed the streets taking chips from casino managers. And now this shithead Bassett makes a deal with our associate. Work for him or jail. Yeah, so we got rid of the plant. Problem was the kid worked on some big project for us. Now I know what what you think, stupid to put untrusted guy to big fishing but it wasn’t like that. This guy was a real badass. We wouldn’t even know what he does if we haven’t got a parrot in the kennel.” Salvatore paused to have another blow of his cigar. “Now he gave Bassett enough evidence to press charges against Semprone. And this is where I come in. The Don sent me to kill Bassett and retrieve all he had. I broke into his house, killed his dog, forced him to give me the evidence, than finished him off along with his wife. I checked the place in case he had something he didn’t show and burnt the place o the ground. Then I left. I brought stuff to Semprone. He said how grateful he was and all that crap but there will be hassle about this job and I need to lay low. He gave me 100 K and advised to go here to Mr. Garatta to set me up. So I am.”

Carlo listened with great attention. At some point along the talks he had drowned his glass. He poured in another shot before speaking up.

“Interesting story.” He knew the man wasn’t lying. The best proof was Julio let him sit at the same table.
“Yeah, I tell you this guy is worth a lot more than lousy hundred grand” Julio said before drowning his drink. “Maybe you could introduce him to Mr. Barzini?”
“Yes. Maybe I could” Carlo repeated looking at Sasso with his eyes narrowed. Salvatore just crossed the other leg and said nothing.
“I’ll get myself another drink. Cindy!” Julio called the girl. She didn’t answer. “Cindy stop playing with me! I’m coming there!”

Julio got on his feet, took the glass and walked to the kitchen. A few seconds later both men at the table heard their host cursing loud.

“What’ta fuck? Who are you? Oh shit! Madre Dio! What do you want?”

Carlo jumped out of his seat. He pulled his gun out of the holster and slowly sneaked to the door. He peered over the threshold and saw Julio in front of another guy or rather a silhouette dressed in black. Black coat, black hat, black gloves. One of his hands was gripping a piece. The other covered Cindy’s mouth and pressed her temple against the barrel. The girl gave up fighting already. Scipio wanted to get back and prepare himself but the thug saw him already.

“You” he said. The voice was calm and cold. A voice of a killer. “Drop your gun.”

Or the girl and your pal die, he could have added. Scipio knew that. The omitting suggested he wasn’t a man wasting his words. Julio turned his head to Scivoli. His eyes tried to tell how sorry he was about drawing his friend into this situation. Carlo blinked in relaxed manner to show him it’s ok. It was a forced gesture. He tried to look calm but inside it was a storm of mixed feelings, anger, fear, surprise, determination, helplessness, obligation. It was not all over. But for now he was dropping his Beretta on the ground. The carpet took some of the noise but it still thudded reaching the floor. The only sound killing the sickly silence. The next was Cindy’s cry gagged by thug’s palm.

“Kick it to me” the gunman commanded.

Carlo moved his foot and set the gun to the kitchen tiles, a yard off the assailant’s legs. Outpacing his next request Scipio brought his hands in the air and stepped more to the view. And then he saw it. Salvatore Sasso was standing at the backdoor to the kitchen. He must have seen all the apartment before and knew there was a way to approach the man from the back. He was touching his lips with an index finger, motioning silence.

The thug smiled. His white teeth made a shocking contrast with the overall blackness. Scivoli saw him better know in the lights of ceiling lamps. The man was Afroamerican. His eyes were glinting. Carlo recognized that look. It was one of triumph. He saw it regularly on the mirror. The man thought he had everything under control. He didn’t know Salvatore Sasso, a renowned hitman crept on him soundlessly with a fibre wire in the hands. Scivoli knew it was crucial for the man not to hear the footsteps. If he turned there might be enough time to reach the gun or throw him to the ground but Sasso would die. Only a blindman would hit from that distance. The person holding the gun was blinded by success in getting inside unseen or unheard, taking a hostage and having two men on his mercy. But it wouldn’t cripple his aim. At least it wouldn’t cripple Carlo’s. The girl would help slowing the oppressor but she was scared to the point useless.

“What do you want?” Scivoli asked to buy some time and provide the noise to jam Salvatore’s steps.
“Silence. Mr. Garatta…” the man paused middle sentence, gathering thoughts. Julio said nothing.

Sasso was half the way from the door to gunman's neck. Talking might make the guy angry but Carlo decided to do it, though Sasso’s steps were soundless for now. One false step and Vegas boy’s dead. He must have known that himself. Scivoli didn’t really like the idea of pissing an armed man off. God knows what he’ll do. Maybe he shoots him on the site. If he tries so, maybe Sasso gets in time to bend the shot. Or maybe not. Why the hell didn’t he use a gun? Plain stupidity. If Carlo knew about the back entrance, he’d pack a bullet between man’s blades or better in the back of his head. But Salvatore Sasso used a fibre wire and Scipio had to trust this fool.

“We can solve it peacefully…” he tried and didn’t even end the sentence interrupted.
“Shut up” the guy was exceptionally cool. Carlo would chew out already in his place. He would in his own place but it wouldn’t be wise. Man can tolerate a steady customer but not a jumping one. “I was talking to Mr. Garatta.”
“Ok, then talk” Julio took on finally. He was the same Julio as the one from Sicily now. The hard gangster who knew how to deal the cards in every situation. “I don’t have all night.”

What happened next was in split of a second. Sasso threw the wire around gunman's neck and squeezed. The guy pulled the trigger splattering Cindy’s brains on the wall above the sink. Her body dropped like a doll into the pool of her own blood. Julio shouted. Salvatore tightened his grip. The stranger’s mouth opened wide, his eyes came with blood and the pistol fell to his feet. Carlo just looked as Salvatore finished the job. The hitman didn’t even blink. Finally he let dead body join the other one on the tiles.

“Why the fuck didn’t you shoot him?” Scivoli asked picking his gun.
“Because I left my shooter in the coat” Sasso replied, folding the fibre and putting it into the pocket.
“Ah, that pretty much explains it” Carlo relaxed. “And I just thought you’re a risk loving faggot.”
“Oh crap, I need to find myself new girl” Julio said watching the remnants of Cindy. “Thanks Salvatore.”
“We got two stiffs to get rid of” Sasso made the point.

Carlo kneeled over the dead man and searched him. He quickly found his wallet with a driving license inside.

“Franklin Ruby. Julio, you know that prick?”
“Never even heard of the shit” Julio walked down to the leftover of his assailant and kicked it.
“Got something useful here” Scivoli showed them a pair of car keys with a Mercedes emblem. “Any chance he parked downstairs?”
“Find out” Sasso said. “We’ll take care of the dummies. If you can’t fetch the car we’ll use mine.”
“What about the guy in the lobby?”
“I’ll deal that” Julio stepped in. “Sal will carry the bodies.”

Carlo checked at the big guy again. Yes, he looked like he could carry two bodies at the same time. Things were brighting up a little. If Julio gets clerk’s attention somehow than they get the bodies out, shove them into car trunk and dispose of on a quiet site. He agreed and got out. Down in the lobby he waved the clerk goodbye. All in all their system wasn’t tight enough letting the killer in. Out in the cold Scivoli looked at the whereabouts. He couldn’t notice a Mercedes in vicinity, so he zipped the jacket to protect from the freeze and decided on a stroll around the block. He barely caught a shape of the vehicle parked in the alley at the back. Black SL500 parking in the shadows far from the lampposts. He made a run for it. He shoved the key into the lock and what to do you know? It fit. Carlo opened the door and helped himself behind the steering wheel. Now was the moment of truth. He was safe sitting in a nice looking car. He could just drive away, leaving all behind. They would manage without him. Both had their own cars. Why should he take more risk? On the other hand it was about Julio. Garatta was more than a friend. He was like a brother. Carlo quit hesitating and pulled over the front entrance. In several minutes that seemed ages Sal Sasso came out holding two big garbage bags over his shoulders. That guy was a bull. As Carlo went out to help he didn’t hear the man panting. Scipio opened the trunk and saw a black briefcase inside. A gift from the stiff. How nice.

“Throw them in” he said, tossing the case on the backseat.

When the bodies were safe in the trunk, Scivoli returned to the wheel and Sasso took the passenger seat. They drove to a gas station and purchased a can of petrol. Then they drove down to Harlem and found a spot under the bridge where noone lived. Ideal. The dogs would think it was local gang thing. They had the place swept just in case any bum took it as a temporary bedroom. There was none. Carlo took the briefcase and Salvatore spilled the gas all over the car inside and out, specially the trunk so the corpses get burnt right way. First he took the rings, bracelets, any stuff that could help identify them. Just to slow the works for police. Than he used a piece of cloth as a torch. The Mercedes burst in flame. Both gangsters made a quick exit anf they were already couple of yards away when the vehicle exploded. Few precincts further they heard sirens of firesquad cars killing the stillness of the night. Sasso dropped the trifles down the drain. They went all their way to Little Italy and made their stop at a little bar none of them knew. Scipio ordered scotch and Sal took whisky.

“I’m curious who this shithead was” Carlo said.
“Guess our friend Mr. Garatta got himself some enemies. This looks like a payment to me” Sasso pointed to the briefcase and Scivoli got it opened. It was all filled with dollar bills.
"Fifty-fifty” he proposed.
“Nah, keep it. Set me a meeting with Don Barzini and we’re even.”

Carlo smiled. A case full of money and a professional hitman at Barzini’s service. Despite a bad start this was a good night for him after all.

“Deal. Drop to the Guilded Lion tomorrow. Signore Barzini will greet you with arms wide open.”

With that said Carlo left the bar carrying the briefcase in his left hand.

Alright...

Let me get to what bothered me before I do the positives of this heist. Your first few paragraphs seemed choppy. You may have rushed it or something, but the grammar seems off to me. The other thing that really bothered me was Julio's reaction to Cindy's death. He seemed kinda "oh well" about it. I get that she's like his bitch...but why not just shoot the guy while he's holding Cindy? When Julio looked at you and you put the gun down, I felt like he cared about her...but then it's like he didn't care she died. Seemed inconsistant to me.

That side, it was a decent idea for a heist, and I can appreciate it's originality. I liked your use of Sasso. Someone else would've used Sasso to just stand there while they did the action. You went the right route, and had your NPC do it. I also loved the little background he gave on himself, really brought him to life.

Outcome:
[1x] Class A gunman Approved
Disposal of two bodies Approved
Cash Approved-20000
